* Juanita’s Story

Let me introduce you to Juanita. She called me 2 weeks ago after she read the article about me in the newspaper. She said she had lots of buttons & costume jewelry for sale and would I be interested in coming over.

She’s 82 and had some of her own Mother’s buttons. Of course I said yes. We spent 2 hours together today and I was blown away by some of the buttons. While showing me the jewelry she’d tell me about certain dances she wore them to.A lot of her necklaces are too small for her so I’m making her extenders she can attach to the back of her necklaces.

While in her bedroom she showed me many a quilt, painting, embroidery and dolls she had made the clothes for. I saw this picture of her parents on the dresser. I was taken aback at their personalities jumping off the page. So young and pretty. Her mom had such style. They went on to have 7 kids together and her mom sewed clothes for everyone. Even with a baby on her hip, living on a farm, her dress had style.

Crewell Stitch

Juanita’s generation impresses me. They don’t throw anything away and they have talents that are fading away such as the Crewell stitch and making clother for dolls. These dolls were in a locked cabinet & I asked why the boy was sad and she said, “oh that’s just Aaron”.I guess Aaron is a sad one.

So, I made a new friend today. I’m happy she picked up the phone and called. I just never know who I’m going to meet next.

By the way, she makes and sells baby quilts. Let me know if you need her contact info.She doesn’t have a computer.
